Since the end of 1993, Canada has set off an “Asian-Pacific hotness” all over the country, from the government to the business community. Liberal leader Jean Chretien won the general election in 1993, and as soon as he came to power, he added the post of “Minister of Asia Pacific Affairs” to the federal government. Particularly striking is the unprecedented appointment of ethnic Chinese (Mr. Chen Zhuoyu) to hold this post, which is unprecedented in the Canadian political history. Then, at the beginning of his tenure, Minister Chen Zhuoyu was sent to Asia twice in succession, asking for help and seeking a solution. What followed was a wave of “commercial long march” by Canadian companies into Asia. At this moment, why is Canada so fond of the Asia-Pacific region? What is the historical pattern of Canada’s foreign relations?
