甘蔗间套作有较大的经济效益,而且发展了淡季蔬菜,对城市蔬菜供应起到积极的作用。建水县农牧局和省农科院甘蔗研究所协作,通过试验示范,在全县大面积推广。1984年全县蔗田间套作实现亩产吨糖收千元的面积达到495亩,间套作物平均亩收入506元,甘蔗亩产9.25吨,两作总收入超过千元。1985年全县实现蔗田间套作物亩收入400元以上的已超过千亩,其甘蔗亩产预计平均可达9吨以上,最高可超过13吨。
