对于没有经历过多次构造运动,而且构造运动不很剧烈、地温梯度无太大变化的沉积盆地确定主要生油期,目前国内外一般采用如下方法。(1)对盆地同一生油层系按不同深度进行系统取样、分析,作出该生油层的总烃量或总烃/有机碳比值与深度的关系图,确定该生油层的现在的生油门限深度。根据地温梯度,就可算出现在的生油门限温度。(2)在盆地不同地区的生油层沉降史图上,生油门限深度水平线与生油层沉降线的交点所对应的时间,即为该地区主要生油期的开始时间。
