By the end of 1981, Japan had a total of 195 artificial ice rinks, almost all of which were Freon-saline indirect refrigeration systems. Since the oil crisis, electricity prices in Japan have risen by 80%. In order to save energy, Japan has introduced the ITT ice pad system from the United States in the past two years. It saves 25 to 40 percent of the energy of traditional indirect cooling systems in the past, and greatly simplifies the construction process. Japan is also preparing to introduce the US DLR direct liquid refrigeration system in the future to achieve further energy savings. This article is a summary of the author’s recent inspection, which can be used as reference for domestic ice rink design.
