Hotspot materials On February 28, 2006, the CPC Central Committee’s Taiwan Affairs Office and the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office were authorized to issue statements on Chen Shuibian’s decision to terminate the operation of the “National Unification Council” and the application of the “National Unification Guidelines”. The statement pointed out: Is the struggle between the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces represented by Chen Shui-bian as a fierce contest for defending or undermining the peace in the Taiwan Strait and is it a fierce contest to develop or destroy the future of cross-strait relations?
