Lumbar spine bone marrow cells caused by cerebrospinal fluid contamination, rarely described. The authors found that bone marrow cells are a frequent source of cerebrospinal fluid contamination. Such contamination can lead to abnormal white blood cell counts and classification, resulting in clinical diagnosis errors. Methods Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples were collected, and the cell counts were performed with a Knox hematocrit. The samples were prepared by cell centrifuge and Wright’s staining. The white blood cell count was counted as 100. If specimens of different stages of blood cells were found, but not found in peripheral blood smears, they were contaminated with bone marrow cells as cerebrospinal fluid. Results 15 of 1,802 samples were contaminated with myeloid cells. Bone marrow cells were found in the cerebrospinal fluid in the first tube. The number of these cells in the last tube decreased or disappeared. In 15 cases, 11 cases of the first tube of white blood cells ≥ 10. All specimens were seen with nucleated red blood cells. Fourteen of 15 patients had immature granulocytes. Twelve of 15 patients were women. average age
