This is a review article,scientific information from the 2nd World Congress on High AltitudeMedicine and physiology, Cozco, Peru, Sept. 24-27, 1996 and the Post-Congress-Meeting inLa Paz, Bolivia, Oct. 1-3, 1996Recent developments of high altitude medicine and physiologycomprises 12 aspects: hypoxic cellular and molecu lar physiology, mitochodrial adaptation, pe-ripheral chemoreceptor, neurotrasmitters, ADH, ANP and RAAS, NO, children and women ataltitudes,high altitude training,altitude population and genetic adaptation, AMS,CMS, high alti-tude social medicine,mountain rescue and rehablitation at altitude.The chief-editor expect this review will incite the knowledge of the most relrvant researchfields in our region, that is, life at the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau.
