中日两国是一衣带水的邻邦,在漫长的古代和中世纪,日本一直积极地了解和学习中国文化;但在近代,日本把西方资本主义工业国家作为学习的样板,经济落后的中国则成了日本侵略宰割的对象。在军国主义统治下,日本官方的中国语教育和中国学研究,成了为其侵略政策服务的工具;而另一方面,有良知的日本人仍然对中国文化怀有崇敬之情,渴望了解中国的真实情况。近代日本的中国语教育和中国学研究,既反映了中日文化交流史上这段不正常的经历,也表明中日两国人民要求相互了解的愿望是任何力量也阻挡不了的。
