自中华人民共和国成立到爆发“文化大革命”(五十年代和六十年代前期),这个时期的我国油画,成绩不小,挫折也不少,发展并不顺利。怎样正确评价其得失,自然要从当时所实施的文艺方针、政策以及执行情况,包括画家们各自的艺术实践来分析考察,但也有必要回顾一下“五四”以来油画进程的基本特征和它所经受的波折,把四、五十年内的中国油画现象摆在历史背景前面,作事物在运动中的辩证探究,以便于比较清楚地看出事情的是非曲直。
