Objective To explore the clinical application of blood glucose monitoring during the intensive treatment of critically ill patients. Methods A retrospective analysis of the management of critically ill patients with glycemic abnormality and insulin-intensive therapy from January 2003 to December 2005 and January 2006 to December 2007 was conducted. Results Seventy-five patients with critically ill patients whose glycemic monitoring was not regulated were unable to effectively control blood glucose, 5 had hypoglycemic reaction, 3 had hypoglycemic coma and had poor glycemic control (including hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, low One case of critically ill patients under control of blood glucose monitoring, two cases of hypoglycemic reactions, no hypoglycemic coma, and the incidence of poor glycemic control was 3.65%. Conclusion Critically ill patients should be monitored by standardized blood glucose and insulin monitoring records to reduce the incidence of poor glycemic control.
