Recent insights into the immune system, genetics, DNA recombinants, hybrids, and monoclonal antibodies have led to a rapid increase in the number of biotech products. The actual investment by U.S. government agencies in basic biotechnology research and the actual investment in venture capitalists’ research in industrial applications has resulted in the development of at least 81 biotech drugs and human vaccines, of which more than a dozen are in the pipeline for FDA approval.
