齿轮传动在机械工业中应用非常广泛。但200年来,渐开线齿轮都一直占居统治地位。近年来,机器设计向着高速、重载方向发展,缩小机件尺寸、减轻重量、提高其承载能力和效率就具有极为重要的意义。为此目的,各国科学家均在寻求新的啮合制和新的齿型。1955年苏联诺维柯夫工程师发明了点啮合制圆弧齿轮,1958年苏联公开发表,并命名为诺维柯夫齿轮,引起各国很大的重视。根据研究试验证明:新型齿轮传动的承载能力与相同条件下的渐开线齿轮相比,一般可提高2~2.5倍左右,寿命约提高1倍左右,因此极有发展前途。
