叶太平教授在《标点符号的时间值》(《写作》1998年第5期)一文中提出“标点符号的本质属性主要为时间值”的观点,并认为“除了着重号以外”,“包括点号和标号的任何一种标点符号都意味着言语活动中语气的停顿时间”,“标点符号使用得对不对、规范不规范的问题,主要得之于对该标点符号所意味着的时间值的细微领悟和精确把握。”对此,本人不敢苟同。现就“标点符号的时间值”问题谈谈自己的看法,与叶教授商榷。一、标点符号的时间值主要体现在点号中,标号多数不体现时间值标点符号是用在书面语言
