To ensure the reliability of power semiconductor devices, the test must take into account the special characteristics of the device and its working conditions. Performance, size and price of power semiconductors now vary widely - from a three-legged 25-cent transistor to a $ 1,000 8 × 8 insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) module. These power semiconductor devices have two prominent features; they can conduct large currents; and dissipate large amounts of thermal energy. Since power semiconductor devices can conduct large currents and are commonly used in industrial and commercial applications, it is difficult to simulate a realistic working environment.
