据中国社会科学院科研局报告,中国社会科学院全院共有正式刊物82种,加上一些内部刊物,总计一百余种,全院共有编辑人员493人,占全院职工总人数的12.3％。1996年,由北京大学图书馆和北京图书馆期刊工作研究会共同评比后出版的《中文核心期刊要目总览》中,全院有50种期刊被评为:中文核心期刊”。如果减去全院12个不在评选范围的期刊,全院入选刊物占71％,大大高于全国14％的入选比例。在人文社会科学领域的63个学科中,全院有17种期刊排居20个学科领域核心期刊第一名。这17种期刊是:
