1976年确定了“高产、半矮秆杂种小麦选育研究”的方向。利用 T 质系统,在不育系中引入 Tom Thumb 的 Rht,基因,选育高产、恢复力强的恢复系.采用冬春杂交的配组方式,配制株高80cm 左右,每穗平均粒数45—50粒,千拉重40克以上,每亩穗数30万左右,抗主要病害的半矮秆杂种小麦.八年来已育成一批株高60cm 左右,具有一定抗性,籽粒饱满的显性矮秆不育系,以及恢复力稳定在80%,产量性状较好的恢复系。近两年来对半矮秆杂种小麦的产量及产量性状和抗病性的研究表明,除了亩穗数以外,基本上达到了育种目标的要求.
