早在上世纪50年代初,我在清华大学工作的时候就已与侯仁之先生相识了。当时,侯老是燕京大学历史系的教授,而我在清华大学梁思成先生创建的建筑系工作。梁先生曾多次请侯老来清华大学讲课。梁思成先生在写《北京——都市计划的无比杰作》一文时曾多次参照和引用侯老的演讲稿《北京的地理背景》。在我成为全国政协委员,以及国家历史文化名城专家委员会副主任委员
As early as the early 1950s, when I was working at Tsinghua University, I met Mr. Hou Renzhi. At that time, Hou was a professor at the Department of History at Yenching University while I worked at the Department of Architecture created by Mr. Liang Sicheng at Tsinghua University. Mr. Liang has repeatedly invited Hou Lao to teach at Tsinghua University. In writing “Beijing - an incomparable masterpiece of urban planning,” Mr. Liang Sicheng has repeatedly referred to and quoted Hou’s speech “The Geographical Background of Beijing.” Before I became a member of the CPPCC National Committee and vice chairman of the National Committee of Experts on Historical and Cultural Cities
