新年伊始，中国篮坛最轰动的一件事，莫过于1月5日在京召开的CBA高层峰会，被称之为是中国篮球发展史上的里程碑式的会议。它之所以如此重要，这是因为，这次会议，是由中国篮球协会自建立中国男子篮球甲A联赛以来首次举办这类会议，会议的主题是“研究进一步推进篮球职业化、产业化发展问题”，目的是，“确立投资目标、明确发展战略、探索经营模式”。来自14支CBA联赛参赛俱乐部的董事长及有关方面负责人共17人出席会议，各俱乐部总经理及CBA联赛新闻委员会筹委会委员也应邀列席了会议。
