Escin is a triterpene glycoside mixture that is found naturally in the seeds of horse chestnut. This ingredient is widely used in the prevention and treatment of various peripheral vascular diseases. In order to investigate the possibility of producing aescin in vitro, the content of aescine in callus and embryoid body produced by explants of Aesculus hippocastanum was determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) The relationship between differentiation and biosynthesis of secondary metabolites is discussed. Tissue Culture Explants from Sterile Zygotic Embryos New Zealand white horse chestnut seedlings grown in vitro with 0.9% Difco Bactko agar and 3% sucrose grow into primary leaves. To obtain callus, the explants are placed on an additional Kinetin (K), NAA (N), 2,4-D (D) and 3% sucrose
