那培思博士认为,作为地域观念的西南具有参照的相对性,作为学术概念的西南正体现出从海外到中国学者群体不断扩大的交流与合作;田野、民族志和文献相结合是认识西南地区文化的地方性、多元性以及表征的复杂性的主要途径,对地方观念以及传统与现代化进程的讨论,将突破长期以来以族群为西南研究模式的格局。
Dr. Na Pei Si believes that Southwest China, as a geographical concept, has the relativity of reference. The southwest, as an academic concept, embodies the ever-expanding exchange and cooperation of scholars from overseas to China. The combination of field, ethnography and literature is an important part of understanding the culture of Southwest China The local, the pluralism and the complexity of characterization. The discussion on the local concept and the process of tradition and modernization will break through the pattern that the ethnic group has been the mode of southwestern research for a long time.
