In the past most of the work on resistance to malaria drugs was limited to the developmental period in vertebrate hosts. Although mosquito vectors are important hosts during the proliferative phase of Plasmodium, the conditions for sporulation in their bodies are seldom noticed. The authors report an experimental model of Plasmodium berghei / Anopheles stephensi that was used to examine the relative fitness of pyrimethamine-resistant and susceptible strains of Plasmodium berghei during sporulation
