In 1957 Lundberg described a rare inflammatory myositis in school-age children in Sweden in 1957 that mainly involved the gastrocnemius muscle. Gastrocnemius muscle had pain and tenderness and was unwilling to walk for 24-48 hours after a single respiratory infection. Symptoms persisted for less than a week Later described in other epidemics as acute myositis and proposed to be associated with flu A and flu B. The CPK was significantly higher and the symptoms returned to normal quickly after the symptoms were relieved.
