回望2008年,对于公安部交通管理局而言是波澜壮阔且硕果累累的一年。在公安部党委的统一领导下,公安部交通管理局以预防特大道路交通事故为重点,以为奥运会创造良好道路交通环境为目标,深入开展奥运道路交通安全攻坚战和预防特大道路交通事故百日行动,积极应对冰雪、地震等自然灾害,狠抓交警系统执法规范化建设,圆满完成了北京奥运会交通安保任务,保障了道路交通安全畅通。这一年,公安部交通管理局荣获了北京奥运会残奥会安全保卫先进集体,全国公安系统抗雪救灾先进集体,中央国家机关“创建文明机关争做人民满意公务员”活动先进单位。由局机关派员组成的公安部抗震救灾前线指挥部交通组还荣获全国公安系统抗雪救灾先进集体。全局37名干部中共有19人、21人次受到表彰奖励,其中,李勤获全国五一劳动奖章、奥运安保一等功,张平获得奥运安保先进个人称号,刘钊、杨继青获奥运安保一等功;王金彪获全国公安系统抗雪救灾二等功、李江平获抗震救灾个人二等功、李哲获奥运安保二等功、李辉获抗震救灾个人二等功、王京获奥运安保二等功;石勇、王强、黎刚获全国公安系统抗雪救灾三等功、王兵兵、吴军、王政新、王健获奥运安保三等功;李伟、陈东、顾祝祥、黎刚获奥运安保嘉奖。
