[World Nuclear News website reported on October 10, 2014] Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) recently announced in Sweden’s “Daily News” (Dagen Nyheter) announced a new round of Swedish nuclear power plant safety upgrades. The purpose of this program is to ensure that the nuclear power plant can maintain core cooling in a scenario similar to the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi NPP. Implementation of the plan will be divided into two phases: • By 2017, all nuclear power units will have separate water and power supply systems that will ensure core cooling within 72 hours of any incident. This action is a common measure taken by many countries after the Fukushima accident and has been implemented on the Swedish nuclear power operator’s own plan
