With endoscopes widely used in medicine and engineering, the roots of crop plants can be readily studied under the field conditions without any damage through the transparent thin tubes preliminarily embedded in the soil. Therefore, it becomes an effective method for crop root investigation. This article reports the observation of potato root growth. On August 30, 1984, at the affiliated farm of Agronomy Department of Mie University in Japan, potato “Nonglin One” was planted with a spacing of 80cm and a spacing of 20cm. After germination on September 15, an 18-mm-diameter iron pipe was punched into a vertical hole at a distance of 5,10 and 15 cm from the tubers. After that, vertical holes of 26 mm in outer diameter
