Reperfusion of tissue cells produces large amounts of oxygen free radicals (OFRs). LPO, SOD, VitE levels in patients with diabetic microangiopathy (mainly diabetic nephropathy and / or retinopathy) (DMM) were measured and compared with those in normal subjects. LPO was significantly higher in the former than in the latter (P <0.01) (P <0.01), but negatively correlated with the age of onset. VitE did not change (or even decreased) after the initial compensatory increase in serum creatinine reached a certain level. The preliminary results show that OFR generated by reperfusion is an important factor in the formation and development of DMM. Correct blood glucose, and can not prevent the occurrence and development of DMM; anti-OFR treatment may help prevent the occurrence and development of DMM.
