Diabetes mellitus and hypertension are two common diseases in middle and old age. The two are closely related to each other and are independent risk factors for causing atherosclerosis of heart, brain and kidney. Diabetes complicated by high blood pressure will greatly increase the risk and speed up the process of cardiovascular disease, stroke, kidney disease and retinopathy. In recent years, scholars at home and abroad have carried out many studies on the relationship between these two diseases in an attempt to reveal the mechanism of the interaction between diabetes and hypertension from the metabolic and cytological levels. This article gives a brief overview of the research progress in this area.
