1975年西藏第五地质大队在研究某地超基性岩铬铁矿石中原生铂矿时,发现一种金属矿物呈亮白色,高硬度,高反射率,均质体,1976年送地质科学院电子探针测定为纯铬。1977年地质部矿产综合利用研究所在某地铬铁矿选矿样<75-2A-1号>的人工重砂精矿和浮选产品再浮选尾矿的溶矿残渣中也发现了较多的纯铬,其产出形态有薄片状、厚板状、粒状等,三个颗粒的电子探针分析平均值为:Cr=100.63%,X光粉晶分析确定其为等轴晶系,a_0=2.889。
