朝鲜蓟是宿根性多年生草本植物,是一种可口又营养好的蔬菜。1984年总产量为1170000吨,其中75—85％供鲜食,15—25％用于加工制罐用。主要生产国家如意大利(500000吨)、西班牙(257000吨)、法国(96000吨)、阿根廷(80000吨)、美国(53000吨)及其余12个国家零星生产。十九世纪传入上海,在徐家汇法国天主教堂盛行栽培,云南昆明亦有栽培,当地称为法国百合或荷花百合。台湾省十几年前曾试种过未成功。1984年又从西德引种,在大甲地区试种成功。1985年再次从美国
