I am honored to receive the Hoechst-Roussel Award for discovering new antibiotics and their use. I would like to introduce my views and ideas on research from the following five points that are the key to my accomplishments: (1) a firm belief in the immense capacity of micro-organisms; (2) the establishment of a well-designed screening system to obtain the required substances; (3) to fully understand the screening is not just routine work; (4) focus on basic research; (5) treasure the good
