Dr. Marcus A. Horwitz and Dr. Gunter Harth of the University of California, Los Angeles report that a modified anti-tuberculosis vaccine is ready for human use. This is a recombinant secreted BCG vaccine (rBCG30) that expresses and secretes 30-kDa, the major secreted protein of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
