Bulgaria began its planned cultivation of fruit trees in 1945. By 1957, fruit cultivation area had 110,000 hectares, most of the orchards belong to the cooperative economy. In the recent two decades, these orchards have been rebuilt on the basis of intensification. Small-scale orchards of cooperative economy have been replaced by the large fruit growing agro-industrial complex (150 in the country) that was established.
