1996年2月28日,国际海事卫星组织研制的全球收费卫星电话系统投入使用。从此,世界上一些连移动电话都无法使用的偏远地区均可使用该系统打电话,收发传真和传输数据。 该系统独立性很强,使用了国际海事卫星组织的数字信号卫星传输网,可依靠太阳能电池板和风力发电机等提供电力。
On February 28, 1996, a global pay satellite telephone system developed by Inmarsat was put into use. Since then, the system can be used to make and receive calls, send and receive faxes, and transmit data in some remote areas of the world that are inaccessible to mobile phones. The system is highly independent and uses the Inmarsat digital signal satellite transmission network, which can rely on solar panels and wind turbines to provide electricity.
