当代日本话剧运动的先驱者,国际有名的戏剧家.中国戏剧家协会的名誉会员千田是也先生的名著《我经历的话剧史》译成中文,以《千田是也传》的题名在纪念中日邦交正常化20年的日子里出版了。这是一件令人振奋的大喜事,是他送给中国戏剧界的一份珍贵礼品。千田是也先生,生于1904年,现在已年近九旬的高龄,依然精神百倍地在为日本戏剧事业的发展而奋斗,在为促进戏剧文化的国际交流而日夜操劳。千田是也先生,自1924年参加小山内薰主持的筑地小剧场起,便决心将自己的一生献给日本戏剧事业。但是,当他发现自己的戏剧表演受到了流行的“否定客观”、“唯心的”表现主义的戏剧“污染”后,便毅然离开了当时参加的剧团,走上追求无产阶级戏剧的道路。千田是也先生经苏联到了德国,那里的工人戏剧运动点燃了他胸中的火种,使他迸发出了为左翼戏剧运动而献身的无穷力量。
