中国科学院理论物理研究所成立于1978年6月,是我国在理论物理学前沿领域各主要学科方向上从事基础研究的专业研究所。1985年成为中国科学院首批面向国内外开放的研究所,1993年被第三世界科学院(ICTP)选为中国首批参加该院协联计划的优秀中心,1997年10月被中国科学院确定为首批基地型试点研究所;1998年8月被列为中国科学院知识创新工程首批十二个试点单位之一,2002年成立了依托于理论物理所的中国科学院交叉学科理论研究中心,致力于推动我国交叉学科理论研究的迅速发展,面向世界聘任兼职优秀研究人员,组成研究群体。
Institute of Theoretical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences was established in June 1978, is our country in the forefront of theoretical physics disciplines in the direction of basic research in the professional institute.
