20世纪以来,美国史学经历了从特纳边疆学说到西部历史研究、新西部历史研究以及当今环境史研究的演进,追寻这一学术脉络的生成与流变,可以更清晰地理解美国史学趋势的内在理路。然而我们习惯于以“后见之明”看待特纳边疆学说的深远影响,却忽视它提出之初的学术背景及其遭际。实际上这一新学说最初在低谷中发出,却引发了越来越多的回音,并逐渐汇聚成时代最强音。这正是本文“重返历史现场”进行
Since the 20th century, American historiography has experienced the evolution from Turner’s frontier theory to the western history research, the new western history research and the research of the contemporary environmental history. It traces the formation and evolution of this academic context and can understand the trend of American historiography more clearly Internal logic.
