Objective To investigate the expression of tumor suppressor genes PTEN and MMP-9 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and their relationship with the invasiveness of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods The expressions of PTEN and MMP-9 in 67 cases of HCC and adjacent non-cancerous tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry (SP method), and the relationship between them and clinicopathological features and invasiveness of hepatocellular carcinoma was analyzed. Results The positive expression of PTEN in HCC was significantly weaker than that in adjacent non-cancerous tissues, while the positive expression of MMP-9 was significantly higher than that in paracancerous tissues. There was a negative correlation between the expression of PTEN and the expression of PTEN And MMP-9 expression was positively correlated. Conclusions The expression of PTEN and MMP-9 may reflect the differentiation and invasiveness of HCC to a certain extent. The loss of PTEN may result in the increase of MMP-9 expression and play a role in the invasion and metastasis of HCC.
