牙买加是个只有1万平方公里、290万人口的小岛国,但却是加勒比海地区新闻传播业的发达国家。自16世纪牙买加被“发现”后200年,没有任何现代新闻传播。1834年牙买加废除奴隶制后,其新闻传播业得到了长足的发展。1962年独立后,公营广电因党派斗争经历较大的起落。进入21世纪后,牙买加的新闻传播业步入快速发展的轨道,传统报刊、广电和互联网的水准均居加勒比海地区前列。
Jamaica is a small island nation of only 10,000 square kilometers with a population of 2.9 million but is a developed country in the media and communications industry in the Caribbean. Since the 16th century, Jamaica was “discovered” by 200 years after its birth, there is no modern news dissemination. After the abolition of slavery in 1834, Jamaica’s news media industry had made great strides. After independence in 1962, public broadcasting and television experienced a large ups and downs as a result of partisan struggles. After entering the 21st century, the news media and broadcasting industry in Jamaica has entered a rapid development track, and the traditional newspapers, radio, television and Internet rank among the highest in the Caribbean.
