1977年8月4日,邓小平主持召开科学和教育工作座谈会。8月6日,清华大学的代表在会上反映说,清华现在招收的新生文化素质太差,许多人只有小学水平,还要补习中学课程。邓小平插话道:那就干脆叫“清华中学”、“清华小学”,还叫什么大学!8月8日,许多代表呼吁恢复高考。邓小平问:“今年是不是来不及改了?”大家回答,今年改还来得及,最多晚一点。邓小平听后,当即决定,从当年起恢复高考。
On August 4, 1977, Deng Xiaoping chaired a scientific and educational work conference. On August 6th, a representative of Tsinghua University said at the meeting that Tsinghua’s newly recruited students have poor cultural quality. Many people only have elementary school level and they have to take secondary school courses. Deng Xiaoping interjected: Then simply called “Tsinghua Middle School”, “Tsinghua Primary School”, also called what university! On August 8, many representatives called for the resumption of the college entrance examination. Deng Xiaoping asked: “Is it too late for this year?” Everyone replied that this year’s change is still too late, at the latest. After listening to Deng Xiaoping, he immediately decided to resume the college entrance examination from that year.
