不知什么缘故,我对“风雨”一词情有独钟,也许是它颇有诗意吧。但自然界的“风雨声”历来与读书人的关系十分密切,以致后来成了一个很敏感的字眼,常常容易同政治发生纠葛,产生意外的祸害。这就是人们所说的“文字狱”。诗的语言与政治,这两个不同的范畴怎么会扯到一起的?这使我常常索解不得。明朝东林党人顾宪成,年轻时便抱负不凡,作了一首对联曰:“风声、雨声、读书声,声声入耳;家事、国事、天下事、事事关心。”受到人们的激赏。后来把它挂在东林书院,这大概代表他们共同的抱负,表示一种荣誉吧。此联的原物已在文革时期被焚毁,后来东林书院修复由廖沫沙重题了此联,如今仍悬挂在无锡东林书院。没想到六十年代初邓拓在北京晚报《燕山夜话》专栏里写了一篇文章提到此联,对读书人应关心国事颇多
