This article explores the mechanism of lead inhibition of cortisol secretion in adrenal cortex cells. The experiment was as follows: The adrenocortical cells of 10-day-old rats were extracted, treated and cultured for 10 days, and the experimental metal was added into the medium containing 3.6 × 10 ~ (-7) M ACTH or 5 × 10 ~ (-4) M Dbc- (Bis-acyl adenylate) in fresh medium (substrate is changed every second day) and then incubated for four days. The concentration of corticosterone in the medium was measured by fluorescence spectrophotometry and the number of viable cells was calculated using the method described by Kull and Cuatrecasas 1983.
