美国GM公司最近制造出首台SD90MAC型交流传动内燃机车（附图），并交付联合太平洋铁路使用。该机车装用GM公司自行开发的6000英制马力（4474kw）四冲程‘H’型柴油机。因为联合太平洋铁路当时急需机车，希望制造厂家迅速交货，所以首批SD90S型机车被制造成一种装用4300英制马力
GM recently manufactured the first SD90MAC AC drive diesel locomotive (photo) and delivered it to the United Pacific Railway. The locomotive is equipped with GM’s self-developed 6000-inch horsepower (4474kw) four-stroke ’H’ diesel engine. Because Union Pacific Railroad was badly in need of locomotives and wanted the manufacturers to deliver the goods promptly, the first SD90S locomotives were manufactured as a single unit with 4300 horsepower
