中国美术家协会第五次全国代表大会于1998年9月10日至12日在北京京西宾馆召开。这次会议是在党中央亲切关怀下、在中宣部和中国文联党组直接领导下召开的,是自1985年5月第四次美代会召开13年来中国美术家们期盼已久的盛会。 第五次美代会由各省、市、自治区美协和中直系统、部队等单位经民主推举代表共计292人,因病、因事请假22人,实到代表270人。与往届相比,这次会议中的妇女、少数民族、民主党派和无党派代表占有相当的比例;代表的年龄趋于年轻化,中青年代表共175人,占60％;艺术家代表占95％以上。代表们欢聚首都,共商中国美术事业的发展大计。
The Fifth National Congress of Chinese Artists Association was held in Beijing West Hotel from September 10 to September 1998. The meeting was held under the direct leadership of the Central Propaganda Department and the Chinese Feds party under the cordial care of the Central Party Central Committee. It was a grand gathering of Chinese artists for the past 13 years since the Fourth United States Congress was held in May 1985 . The fifth session of the U.S. Congress was democratically elected by representatives from the provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, the U.S. Artists Association, the Central China Straightening System and the armed forces in units of 292 people. Of the 292 people who were sick due to sick leave, 270 were actually represented. Compared with the previous session, women, ethnic minorities, democratic parties and non-partisan representatives in this meeting occupied a considerable proportion; the age of the representatives tended to be younger, with a total of 175 middle-aged and young people representing 60%; the number of artists represented 95% the above. Delegates gathered in the capital to discuss the development plan of Chinese art.
