1 1937年8月13日,日军大举进攻上海,我国守军猛烈还击。经过两个多月的抵抗,日军死伤惨重,正面进攻失利。于是日军改变进攻方向,绕道金山卫登陆,包抄我军后路。10月27日,驻守江湾、闸北的我军八十八师奉命后撤,派该师五二四团团副谢晋元(后升为团长)率领部分兵力(号称八百壮士)担任后卫掩护。在闸北的巷战中,日军凭借优势装备向毫无工事掩护的谢晋元部队节节进逼。我军被迫转入苏州河北的“四行仓库”继续抵抗。
On August 13, 1937, the Japanese army launched a massive attack on Shanghai and our defenders attacked them violently. After more than two months of resistance, the Japanese army suffered heavy casualties and made a positive defeat. So the Japanese change the offensive direction, bypassing Jinshan Wei landed, outflank the back road. On October 27, the 88th Division of our army, stationed in Jiangwan and Zhabei, was ordered to retreat, sending the division’s 524th Regiment Vice Xie Jinyuan (later promoted to head) to lead some of the troops (known as the 800th Warrior) as defender’s cover . During the street fighting in Zhabei, the Japanese troops pressed on with Xie Jinyuan troops who did not cover their work with superior equipment. Our army was forced to turn to the “four-line warehouse” in Hebei and continue to resist.
