In the tropical jungle, the communication of low-power radio stations presents great difficulties due to the absorption of the trees and the impact of the terrain. This paper describes the use of trees as part of an antenna radiator that connects the top of a short antenna to the tree and calls it a “miter tree antenna.” At the lower end of the shortwave band (2 to 7 MHz), whip antennas with the same length (the same length as the wire connecting the radio to the tree node) increase the signal level at the receiver output when both transmit and receive antennas are used 15 to 20 dB. This paper gives a basic analysis of the performance of this antenna and introduces the test data. Finally, some problems about the use of this antenna, such as the choice of tree and the choice of contact height, are studied.
