德国医生郭霍发现我整整一百周年了。读者们大概对我不会陌生,我就是引起结核病的元凶祸首。除了毛发和指(趾)甲,人身上的各种器官、组织几乎都是任我驰骋征服的沙场。肺结核、肠结核、肾结核、骨结核、淋巴结核、结核性脑膜炎、粟粒结核……,这些病名都铭记了我的丰功伟绩。我的学名叫结核分枝杆菌,通称结核杆菌。因为我长得极小,肉眼看不见,所以在漫长的岁月里没有被人发现。中国古代人曾猜想我是引起痨病的虫子,把我叫做“痨虫”,真是天才的科学预见,不过我实际上够不上称“虫”。我生来身材纤细苗条似杆,所以叫杆菌。

My scientific name is Mycobacterium tuberculosis, commonly known as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Because I was so tiny and invisible to the naked eye, I was not found in the long years. The ancient Chinese people had conjectured that I was a hives disease caused by hysteria, called me a “pinworm” is really a genius of scientific foresight, but I actually do not call “insects.” I was born slim and slender like a bar, so called Bacillus.
