文言词“以”作其他词用时都比较容易辨认,最难辨认的是“以”字在一个句子里究竟是作动词还是作介词。究其容易混淆的原因,主要是由于“以”字不论作动词用还是作介词用,它后面都可以带宾语,形式相同。但是,只要我们弄清“以”字作动词用和作介词用的不同意义与各自的特点,便可以正确地辨认它们了。下面试作略析。“以”字作动词用,主要有两种情形。一、“以”字在句子中作唯一的动词用。现代汉语可译为“认为”“用”等,可以作谓语,并有宾语。如:
The classical Chinese words “to” are easier to identify when used as other words. The hardest part to recognize is whether a word is a verb or a preposition in a sentence. The reason for its confusion is mainly due to the fact that the word “以” is used both as a verb and as a preposition, and it can be followed by an object with the same form.
