随着经济的日益发展,人民生活水平的不断提高,旅游已成为人们生活中不可缺少的部分。它开阔了人们的视野,丰富了人们的生活,调节了人们的情趣。安全成为旅游者最为关心的首要问题,也成为旅游业发展中关键性的因素。1985年6月发生的美国环球航空公司劫机事件后,140万美国人对出国旅游作出重新安排,其中85万人彻底取消旅行计划,15万人改变了旅游目的地,22万人则就地在国内旅游。因此,旅游保险在防止旅游危险,减少旅游者心理压力,促进旅游业发展中起着越来越重要的作用。
