This paper describes in detail the mineralogical and chemical characteristics of autochthonites from the hydrothermal siliceous chimneys in the Mariana Trough, and discusses its formation according to its occurrence. A precipitated dioctahedral 2: 1 type expanded clay mineral precipitated directly from hydrothermal fluids under low temperature, oxidative conditions after the precipitation of the silicic oxide precipitates due to altered hydrothermal conditions.
