Using his training methods, Professor Fred L. Gardafi taught his students how humor can affect and how it affects his life, which made his class enjoyable. But his sense of humor was painstaking, and the family tragedy left him with a terrible, indelible mark that became a major obstacle to his emotional development. “Writing helped me understand what happened and sometimes why it happened, and when I wrote something, I learned something new.” Gaddafi had to create criticism worthy of eager scholarship by writing “Italian Symbols, American Streets,” also worthy of criticism of the heart-warming snobber to prove the existence of Italian-American literature. Because he believes writing is the best response to reading, he writes a lot about books about Italian culture. He is now writing a book about the role of humor in the Italian-American community, including what he sees as the obvious “irony” of second-generation Italian-Americans.
